Centralia’s Jimbo Bringman won two state medals at the state swim meet in Federal Way on Saturday, placing third in the 100-meter fly and sixth in the 200-meter individual medley.

After swimming a 2:06.96 in the preliminary race, Bringman raced a 2:06.56 in the 200-meter race, and after finishing the 100-meter race in 54.04 seconds in that preliminary, he clocked a time of 54.39 seconds to finish in third by less than two-tenths of a second.

In that race, Bringman’s third-place time was less than a second ahead of every placer from fourth through eighth.

He becomes the third Bringman in the last handful of years to earn a state medal, joining former Centralia swimmers Chihiro and Suki Bringman.

“He was very happy to be on the podium,” Centralia coach Chie Bringman said. “He is excited to share his memories when all of the siblings get together in a couple of weeks.”

Jimbo Bringman was also a part of Centralia’s 4x100 freestyle relay team, which competed in the preliminary race on Friday.

Jimbo Bringman, Will Guthrie, Eli Baldwin, and Nigel Nguyen knocked 1.98 seconds off of their seeding time, placing 20th.

“They represented the team very well,” Chie Bringman said.

Baldwin knocked two seconds off his leg, and Guthrie “truly enjoyed” his first experience at state.

In addition, the Tigers were also named the 2A Academic State Champions. As a team, they finished the season with a combined grade point average of 3.88.
