Centralia’s Tyler Fagerness won the 2A Evergreen Conference League Meet on Tuesday, shooting a 3-over 75 at Tumwater Valley Golf Club.
Fagerness missed a recent match due to some soreness in his wrist, but he was healthy on Tuesday, and he looked the part of a league winner throughout the day.
He shot even on the Front 9 after two birdies and a double bogey, and he bogeyed just three holes while carding pars on the rest of the Back 9.
“We’re happy that he was pretty healthy,” Centralia assistant coach Chris Thomas said. “He was able to do what he does, and he swung freely and confidently.”
Fagerness was also named the League’s Most Valuable Player, an honor he earned based on the average of his nine best nine-hole rounds over the course of the season.
The all-league teams were also determined via that average.
The first team was made up of Centralia’s Jamie Conzatti, Tumwater’s Liam Gustafson, Black Hills’ Landon Echols, W.F. West’s Jayce Ayers and Emmett Goodman, and Shelton’s Ole Clark.
The second team consisted of Black Hills’ Kendell Roberson, W.F. West’s Gage Wiens, Tumwater’s Easton Konrad and Jeremy Cook, Shelton’s Parker Wicks, and Aberdeen’s Isaac McCarty.
Black Hills’ Roberson finished in second place with a 77, highlighted by birdies on 14 and 18, and W.F. West’s Goodman finished in third with an 80. Goodman was 3-over par through four holes, but he birdied three of the last four holes on the Front 9 to finish at an even 36 through nine holes.
W.F. West’s Wiens and Centralia’s Conzatti finished tied for fourth at 81 apiece, and Centralia’s Paul Guthrie notched a sixth-place finish with an 82.
Conzatti’s two birdies came on Holes 9 and 18, and Guthrie’s mark was a career-low.
W.F. West’s Layton Griffith and Tumwater’s Gustafson both shot an 83 to finish tied for seventh, and W.F. West’s Kobe Arevalo finished tied for ninth with an 84.
Later down the leaderboard, Centralia’s Evan Haines finished tied for 12th with an 86, a career-low of his own.
W.F. West won the team title with 185.5 team points, 10.5 more than Centralia’s 170, which was good for second place.
In addition to their four top-10 finishers, Ayers and Cooper Brown tied for 15th with a final tally of 88. Goodman, Weins, Griffith, and Arevalo all finished with their best scores of the season.
“It was a tremendous team effort for the Bearcats,” W.F. West coach Matt Klovdahl said. “This is what we work for all year. I am really excited for the team. The league matches this season have all been very close, so to be able to show up and play so well when it really mattered was exciting.”
W.F. West, Centralia, Black Hills, and Tumwater will now all turn their attention to the district tournament, which is set to take place next Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 20 and 21, at the Tri-Mountain Golf Course in Ridgefield.
The exact number of state tournament berths is unavailable until the east side of the state plays its regular season in the spring.
