Chehalis City Clerk Caryn Foley to Retire After More Than Three Decades

Chehalis City Clerk Caryn Foley, who has been serving the city for more than three decades, will be retiring on March 24.

Foley was originally hired in August 1986 to fill a temporary six-month position. About halfway through those six months, the full-time city clerk position opened and she was hired, becoming Chehalis’ city clerk on Nov. 24, 1986.

“It’s surreal. I can’t believe 34 years have gone by. I am grateful to have had a career that I loved,” Foley said.

In retirement, Foley plans to do some traveling with childhood friends and spend time with her two grandchildren, Lizzi and Charlie, and other grandchildren who may come along.

Foley said that the most enjoyable part of the job was the people.

“I have said many times that I feel so blessed to have worked with and become friends with so many wonderful people,” she said.

Chehalis City Manager Jill Anderson said at Monday’s council meeting that Foley will be formally honored at the next city council meeting.

“This is her last meeting and she is leaving very big shoes to fill. It is not going to be the same without her and we will miss you, Caryn,” Anderson said on Monday.
