Chehalis Foundation launches fundraising campaign for W.F. West field expansion

The Chehalis Foundation is spearheading a fundraising campaign to install turf, resurface the track and expand the facility to include a regulation-size soccer field at W.F. West High School’s Bearcat Stadium.

A grant award from TransAlta and a $1 million contribution from the Ingwersen Ballfield Endowment Committee have provided a foundation for the campaign’s $3.4 million goal. No school district funds will be used for this project, which will be funded entirely by community support, according to a foundation news release. The foundation, which recently finished a project to renovate the W.F. West baseball stadium, hopes to complete the project in 2027.

“This support is a testament to the incredible generosity of our community,” Rick Goble, Chehalis School District superintendent, said in the release. “This project will benefit students and our community for many years to come.”

With over $1.879 million invested in local sports facilities since 2012, the Ingwersen Ballfield Endowment aims to enhance recreational spaces, with these upgrades boosting athlete safety, reducing maintenance costs and offering a versatile venue for events.

The campaign includes various sponsorship levels, allowing businesses and individuals to contribute.

“This is an exciting opportunity for the community to come together,” Allen Unzelman, fundraising committee chairperson, said in a release.

A dedicated steering committee, including Robert Pehl Jr., Jon Hubbert, Matt Noren, Unzelman, Tyler McCallum, Tommy Elder, and Jenny Collins, will oversee the project’s planning and implementations.
