The Lewis County Dairy Ambassador crown was passed on to 17-year-old W.F. West High School senior Jennifer Swenson Saturday at a coronation ceremony at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Chehalis.

Swenson edged three other finalists — Katie Rhodes, Abby Smaciarz and Karissa Teeter — to get the nod and become the 54th winner of the event.

She replaces 2011 Dairy Ambassador Elizabeth Beck, a senior at Onalaska High School.

Swenson is the daughter of Frank Swenson and Christy Dykstra-Ervin. She has been involved in 4-H dairy for 10 years, raising and showing dairy heifers. She plans to attend Centralia College after high school, and then transfer to Washington State University to complete a degree in pharmacy.

Smaciarz, 17, was selected as the alternate dairy ambassador. The daughter of Terry and Lana Smaciarz lives with her family on their dairy farm in Raymond.

To qualify as dairy ambassador, an applicant must be a female between 18 and 25 years old, work on a dairy farm, be a 4-H or FFA member and come from a dairy farming family.
