A Chehalis Home Depot employee is charged with second-degree theft after he allegedly stole over $700 from the store’s cash registers — and hid the money in his work apron.

The alleged thefts were reportedly caught on camera.

Andrew D. Fortune, 37, of Centralia, made a preliminary appearance in Lewis County Superior Court Thursday following his Wednesday arrest.

He faces a maximum of up to five years in prison and $10,000 in fines for the Class C felony.

A judge set bail at $10,000 cash or bond.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Chehalis police began investigating after the store’s loss prevention team discovered the alleged thefts, which occurred on May 26, May 27, June 2, June 6, June 7 and June 8.

Police said the stolen money totaled at least $734.

Fortune allegedly stole an additional $100 in merchandise on June 2 by “passing” it to his wife while on shift, according to the affidavit.

Fortune reportedly admitted to the thefts when confronted by loss prevention. He is scheduled for an arraignment on June 18.
