While the majority of Monday’s Chehalis City Council meeting was spent discussing taxes and the city’s budget, the meeting began with Chehalis Police Chief Randy Kaut swearing in two new police officers — Derek Beairsto and Brady Hinds.

“Recently, we had two graduates from the police academy,” Kaut said.

Chehalis Police Officer Dylan Purkey was introduced alongside Beairsto and Hinds, as Purkey also started working with the department in March.

Once introduced, Kaut swore in Beairsto and Hinds in front of the council. The oath they took included swearing to uphold both the U.S. and Washington state constitutions along with the law enforcement officer’s code of ethics.
