The Chehalis Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) representing James W. Lintott and Orin C. Smith Elementary Schools is holding a meeting Monday, Nov. 10, at 6:30 p.m. to discuss the district’s decision not to participate in Camp Cispus this year due to financial concerns.
The longstanding outdoor educational program has been offered to Chehalis School District fifth-graders the past two years, according to the Chehalis PTO.
While tentative, the decision not to take part in Camp Cispus reportedly comes after the PTO unanimously voted to support and help fund the outdoor experience for this year’s fifth-graders.
According to the PTO, many Chehalis parents attended Camp Cispus as students.
Superintendent Rick Goble and Assistant Superintendent Trisha Smith will be present at the meeting to answer questions and discuss outdoor education opportunities.
“Your voice matters — and your involvement helps ensure parent perspectives are part of decision-making,” the PTO wrote in a Nov. 6 Facebook post.
Cub Scout Pack 9301 will host outdoor-themed activities for any kids attending.
“A perfect match as we talk about exploration, leadership, and learning in the outdoors,” the PTO wrote.
The meeting will be held at James W. Lintott Elementary Library and is open to all families and community members.
