Students from the Chehalis School District will have their artwork featured on the Washington state tree beside the National Christmas Tree in the White House and President’s Park in Washington, D.C.
This holiday tradition, made possible by the National Parks Foundation and the National Parks Service, features 59 trees — one to represent each U.S. state, territory and the District of Columbia as well as the Bureau of Indian Education, Department of Defense Education Activities and America250 — adorned with ornaments designed by K-12 students.
The Washington ornaments were designed by members of the Chehalis School District class of 2035 during the 2024-2025 school year. The designs celebrate the unique culture, landmarks and history of Washington, bringing a piece of home to the nation’s capital, a news release from the Chehalis School District stated.
James Lintott Elementary was chosen for the honor of representing Washington state this year through a nomination by Sen. John Braun, R-Centralia.
All members of the class of 2035, second graders, created an ornament. Then, two from every class were chosen to be sent to Washington, D.C. Each ornament submission was also accompanied by an explanation by the student of their experience in creating their ornament and what inspired their design.
“These students worked so hard on these designs and really took this seriously,” said James
Lintott Elementary Principal Merisa Wilson, who organized the students’ submissions. “I am excited to see their artwork represent Washington state for visitors who come from around the globe to visit this display.”
The National Christmas Tree lighting ceremony will take place on Thursday, Dec. 4.
The National Christmas Tree display is open to the public starting Dec. 6 through Jan. 1, 2026, and is free for all visitors.
Ornaments can also be viewed online beginning on Dec. 6 at thenationaltree.org/ornaments.
