A Chehalis woman is facing assault and attempted theft charges after she allegedly put her husband in a chokehold several times during an argument early Monday morning.

The Chronicle is choosing not to identify the defendant in order to protect the identity of the alleged victim.

The victim told responding police officers that when his wife arrived home from work, she accused him of cheating and an argument ensued, according to court documents.

During the argument, the two parties reportedly got into a physical struggle over the victim’s phone, where both were “trying to get the phone and pushing at each other,” per court documents.

The defendant allegedly “choked” the victim several times, for approximately 10 seconds each, per court documents. Officers reportedly observed red marks on the victim’s neck and blood on the victim’s hands “which appeared to be from scratches.”

When contacted by law enforcement, the defendant reportedly changed her story several times and allegedly admitted to putting her husband in chokeholds during the fight. Officers noted no injuries on the defendant “consistent with her version of what took place” and noted “the smell of intoxicants coming from her breath,” per court documents.

She was booked into the Lewis County Jail just before 3 a.m. on Monday and was scheduled to have her preliminary hearing in Lewis County Superior Court at 4 p.m. that afternoon.
