Bail has been set at $15,000 for a woman accused of threatening a man with a knife at a campground on Centralia Alpha Road on Friday, June 9.

The suspect, Juana Rosa Bognacki, 60, of Chehalis, was charged Monday with one count each of second-degree assault, fourth-degree assault and felony harassment — all with domestic violence enhancements.

Bognacki is accused of “scratching, pushing and throwing things” at the victim repeatedly throughout the day on June 9, with the behavior escalating into Bognacki allegedly grabbing a kitchen knife and threatening to kill the victim, according to court documents.

A responding deputy reportedly observed “two small cuts on (the victim’s) head with what appeared to be freshly dried blood smeared around both cuts,” as well as “debris of something on and in his right ear and neck” and bright red scratch marks on the left side of his neck, above the right armpit and on the bottoms of both forearms, according to court documents.

Bognacki, who was reportedly “hiding somewhere in the campground area” when law enforcement responded, was eventually found hiding underneath a neighboring trailer and behind a set of tires.

When questioned, “she continually said she did not want to go to jail,” allegedly admitted to drinking prior to the incident and denied having a knife during the dispute, according to court documents.

Bognacki has since claimed she was acting in self-defense and sustained serious bruises during the dispute, according to defense attorney Rachael Tiller.

Bognacki was arrested and, during transport to the Lewis County Jail, allegedly insulted and threatened to kill the arresting deputy repeatedly, according to court documents.

Arraignment is scheduled for Thursday, June 15.
