Jessica Parrent, a local singer from Chehalis, has recently been invited to enter an international Christian singing competition called “You, God’s Music.”
A wife and mother of two, Parrent graduated from W.F. West High School in 2010 and currently lives in Chehalis. She has spent the past year working on a YouTube channel, and has also started releasing original music on streaming services.
Parrent sang “Counting My Blessings” by Seph Schlueter and also played guitar, keyboard and drums for her video.
Her audition can be found at https://shorturl.at/Ocjpv.
“I was invited to participate in the competition via a post on a Christian songwriters page on Facebook that I made about a song I was working on,” Parrent said. “My hope is that this competition gives me a boost in my music career — even if I don’t win in the end.”
She is officially entered in the first round of the competition. After that, there is a second round, semifinals and finals. Video auditions are submitted, and the public is invited to vote for their favorite artist.
The top 50% of contestants will move on to the second round, where the top 25 contestants will move onto the semifinals. The top five from the semifinals will go to the finals, which will be held live in San Antonio, Texas, on July 26.
You, God’s Music is hosted by Jason Crabb. The judges are Jordan Smith, Jordan Feliz and Blanca. The performing headliner this year is Tauren Wells.
Votes are $1 each, with a five-vote minimum. In order to move onto the second round, Parrent must be within the top 173 of 345 contestants.
She had 200 votes and was ranked 50th as of Monday afternoon.

Voting for the first round ends on May 4.
After that, voting for the second round will last from May 16 to June 1, the semifinals from June 13 to June 29, and the finals from July 4 to July 20.
The winner of the competition will receive an authentic original single, mixed and mastered, with a video package, song story interview and acoustic performance, along with one professional photo session with a digital media package.
Additionally, the winner will get a consultation with an attorney at the Langley & Banack for a copyright registration application for a song and to review a live performance contract; a hair beauty makeover by a beauty professional; and a $500 Southwest Airlines gift travel card.
The showcase winner will take home 80% of their total donation votes. The remaining 20% will be gifted to the winner's church or religious organization.
“If I win, I will be donating all the money to our Legacy Building Fund at Jesus Name Pentecostal Church where I attend and am part of the music ministry,” Parrent said. “We are getting ready to build a new building to hold our growing congregation!”
