Following the initial release of election results Tuesday, Cherie DeVore is in the lead to become the next mayor of Toledo.
Just after the polls closed at 8 p.m., the Lewis County Auditor’s Office reported that DeVore had 85 votes, or 71.43% of the ballots, to Jake Morgan’s 31 votes, or 26.05% of the ballots. The Lewis County Auditor’s Office counted 119 votes for the race in the initial release, with three residents writing in a candidate.
In the lead up to the election, DeVore told The Chronicle that “The people of Toledo want and deserve transparency and good communication between the citizens and the city government.”
“The biggest challenge we currently face is rebuilding trust, which I will work towards by encouraging open dialogue and being accessible to my neighbors for questions and suggestions,” DeVore said.
The preliminary count included the results of 13,338 ballots. The Lewis County Auditor’s Office estimated there were still 701 ballots left to count on election night, with an estimated total voter turnout of 24.15%.
The next ballot count will be released at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 8. Election certification will take place on Nov. 28.
