City of Centralia continues new city manager search after council chooses not to hire three finalists

When former Centralia City Manager Rob Hill announced his retirement in May after working in the position since 2010, city staff began working with Prothman consultants searching for possible candidates for the vacant position.

In July, three candidates were selected as finalists from those who originally applied for the job after Hill retired. Those three finalists, Robert Harrison, Chandra Wax and Jennifer Wills, attended a reception with the public along with interviews with the Centralia City Council last month.

After the interviews, the council ultimately decided none of the finalists were right for the job, according to a news release from the city.

“The city council interviewed three qualified candidates last month, but after thorough deliberation, the council determined none of them were the best fit for the position at this time,” the release stated. “The council is committed to finding the right person to lead the city and will be going back out to continue their search.”

Amy Buckler, who was Centralia’s parks and recreation director and deputy city manager prior to Hill’s retirement, will continue on in her current role as Centralia’s interim city manager — a position she assumed after Hill left — while the search continues.
