City of Centralia Looks for Applicants to Fill Vacant City Council Seat

Posted

Following Leah Daarud’s resignation from an at-large position on the Centralia City Council earlier this month, the city is now approaching the deadline for applications for a new councilor.

“I want to remind people that the opportunity is there and encourage some of our citizens to think real hard about that,” Centralia City Manager Rob Hill said at Tuesday evening’s city council meeting.

The deadline to submit an application is May 1 at 5 p.m., and applications must be submitted in person at the city clerk’s office, located on the second floor of Centralia City Hall at 118 W. Maple St.

To qualify as an applicant, a person must have lived within Centralia city limits for at least one year and be a registered voter of the city. Applications can be found online and printed out here, https://www.cityofcentralia.com/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=56.

Once applications have been received, a meeting will be scheduled to interview applicants. The council may convene an executive session to discuss applicant qualifications, but all interviews, subsequent nominations and votes must be conducted in an open, public meeting.

The applicant selected will then serve out the remainder of Daarud’s term in office, which ends Dec. 31, and if elected during this year’s general election, will continue serving after that.
