The City of Chehalis received a $200,000 grant from the Office of Chehalis Basin for Phase II of the Wastewater Treatment Plant Demolition Project.

The Chehalis City Council approved the acceptance of the funding during its Monday business meeting.

In 2024, the city received $100,000 in grant funding from the office for the purpose of conducting environmental pre-permitting work and developing 60% demolition design at the 9.32-acre derelict wastewater treatment plant, located at 1191 NW Shoreline Drive.

In July, the city received authorization for the additional $200,000 in funding, which will be used to obtain 100% demolition design and all necessary local, state and federal permits necessary to have a shovel-ready site for demolition and subsequent restoration.

This grant is necessary to make further efforts to demolish derelict structures currently located in the floodway and floodplain, and to restore this property to its pre-developed state, according to the city’s agenda report.

There is no fiscal impact to the city, as Phase II of the Wastewater Treatment Plant Demolition project is funded 100% through grant dollars.
