With rainy weather returning this week, bringing cooler temperatures and higher humidity, the Chehalis Fire Department has lifted a recreational burn ban, according to a Tuesday, Sept. 25 news release.
“Recreational fires, campfires, charcoal barbecue and fires in outdoor fireplaces or chimney type devices are now allowed,” the release stated.
Outdoor burning of brush, vegetation and garbage remains prohibited within Chehalis city limits. The city’s move aligns with lifted recreational fire restrictions in unincorporated Lewis and Thurston counties.
The Department of Natural Resources last week issued a release reminding residents to remain vigilant for wildfires. At the time of the release, Washington had seen 1,855 wildfires that burned 155,503 acres in 2023.
