Commuters driving between Centralia and Chehalis are urged to prepare for potential traffic delays on North National Avenue as pavement rehabilitation work on the road is set to begin on Monday, July 22, according to a news release from the City of Chehalis.

The pavement work will be carried out by Lakeside Industries and will consist of grinding and pavement inlay work, adding traffic signal loop detection, striping and traffic control.

Pavement work will take place on North National Avenue from just north of Northwest Chamber of Commerce Way down to the intersection with Northeast Washington Avenue.

Grinding and paving work is scheduled to be carried out nightly from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Friday until the work is completed.

City staff expect the work to take about two weeks to complete, but inclement weather could cause delays.

“The work will necessitate nightly road closures through this area. Traffic delays should be expected, and alternate routes are advisable,” the release stated. “Businesses will remain open during construction.”

Commuters are asked to slow down driving through the construction zone and proceed with caution for the safety of those completing the work.

Funding for this pavement work is coming from the City of Chehalis’ Transportation Benefit District and a Washington State Transportation Improvement Board grant.
