City of Tenino Holding Meeting to Consider Applying for Renewable Energy Federal Funding

Tenino residents are invited to a community meeting at Tenino City Hall on July 20 to consider if the city should apply for federal funding to pay for renewable energy projects, according to a news release from the city.

City officials are hoping to engage with residents to identify and prioritize potential renewable energy projects for Tenino.

Located in city hall at 149 Hodgden St. S. in downtown Tenino, the meeting will go from 6 to 8 p.m. Among the topics of discussion will be reducing household energy costs, school district energy costs and bringing workforce development benefits.

“The community meeting on July 20 is an opportunity to hear about potential funding and other available resources, and participate in a discussion to identify and prioritize possible clean energy projects for the City of Tenino,” the release stated. “For example, it might be possible to reduce the high energy cost burden to the city of the wastewater treatment plant — is that a desirable goal?”

Washington Department of Commerce’s Energy Resilience and Mitigation Program team will be on hand for the meeting. They will provide more information about federal funding, which includes the U.S. Department of Energy’s new Energy Improvements in Rural or Remote Areas grants, among other potential resources available.

While the meeting will be held in person, remote attendance is available, as are captioning services. For disability accommodations or accessibility information, contact Energy Resilience and Mitigation Program Manager Deb Witmer at 564-669-4725 or Deborah.Witmer@commerce.wa.gov.
