Clapp and Wimsett set the pace in Tumwater/Black Hills meet

The Tumwater cross country teams topped Black Hills on Wednesday at Pioneer Park, with six Thunderbirds finishing in the top eight in both the boy’s and girl’s races.

It was all T-Birds in the girl’s top-10, with senior Annabelle Clapp winning the race with a time of 20:20.88. Freshman roommate Alexandra Broome was just 12 seconds behind to finish second at 22:32.82, and senior Olivia Ahrens wasn’t far behind to take third with a time of 22:45.33.

Senior Taelor Woo was the Wolves’ top finisher, taking fourth by clocking a 22:53.74. Black Hills junior Zaniah Robinson rounded out the top five with a time of 23:14.96.

The next three finishers were all from Tumwater, sealing what went on to be a 19-39 team win. 

Black Hills senior Truman Wimsett won the boy’s race, finishing 37 seconds faster than any other racer with a time of 17:55.75.

The battle for second place was much tighter, and Tumwater senior Reis Howell eked past Black Hills senior Landen McKissick by .17 seconds to finish second with a time of 18:32.17.



The next six racers to cross the finish line were T-Birds, eventually leading to a 24-37 team win.

Sophomores Jude Furubotten and Zane McAferty rounded out the top five with times of 18:36.38 and 18:40.57, respectively.

Tumwater will race in the Fort Steilacoom invitational this Saturday, while the Wolves are set to take on W.F. West in their next race on Wednesday, Sept. 20 at Makarenko Park in Aberdeen.
