The Tumwater cross country team won both team events and also got an individual winner Wednesday at a 2A EvCo meet with W.F. West and Rochester at Stan Hedwall Park.

Senior Annabelle Clapp won the 5,000-meter girls race — which actually turned out to be a bit more than 5,000 meters long after someone on the far side of the park unknowingly moved a cone — with a time of 21:47.19.

Clapp led a dominant Tumwater effort that placed six girls in the top six spots to sweep the podium. Freshman Alexandra Broome (22:35.53) took second, Olivia Arens (22:58.23) was third, Raegan Smith (24:10.64) was fourth and Jesse Brumbaugh (25:16.62) was fifth. Rachel Zahn came in sixth for the T-Birds in 25:23.46, just as Rochester’s Mercedies DuPont pulled off a sprint to finish seventh in 25:24.01, just ahead of W.F. West’s Mercedes Ricks (25:26.16).

Seraschel Aldrich (25:56.84) placed ninth for Rochester. W.F. West had Jane Birchard (26:25.81), Loren Kattenbraker (27:52.92) and Kaitlin Elmore (28:09.16) take 11th through 13th, respectively.

Rochester’s Gunnar Morgan won the boys’ race by 28 seconds in 17:21.69, ahead of Tumwater’s Reis Howell (17:49.94). Alan Penrose III (18:37.95) was third for the T-Birds, who placed five runners in the top seven, and Ezra Birchard led W.F. West with a fourth-place finish in 18:43.55.

Wolves, Tigers run at Shelton

Centralia and Black Hills’ cross country teams went to Shelton on Wednesday, where the Wolves took second to Aberdeen as a team on both sides.

Luke Grunenfelder took second place in the boys’ race for Black Hills with a time of 17:02.15, while Truman Wimsett was third in 17:25.05.

Centralia’s Eli Baldwin led the Tigers with a time of 18:40.13 to finish eighth.

In the girls’ race, Centralia’s Ruth Gonzalez came in third with a time of 23:26.48, and Esther Hopkins was fifth in 24:38.41. In between them came Black Hills freshman Avery Reynolds at 24:28.41 to lead the Wolves.
