Clements does it all in Titans’ season-opening victory

One of the best players last spring in the P2BL didn’t need long to re-introduce himself to SW Washington. Pe Ell/Willapa Valley’s Eddie Clements launched a grand slam and struck out seven in relief to lead it to a 9-6 win over Ocosta on Saturday.

All of PWV’s runs came in the first and with two outs. It loaded the bases with zero outs, then after back-to-back strikeouts, took advantage of two walks on the ends of a hit by pitch. Kash Ruddell notched an RBI single, followed by another walk, then Clements’ dinger to cap the nine-run frame.

Ocosta responded with four in the bottom of the first and two in the fourth, but didn’t muster anything over the final 3.1 innings with Clements on the bump. The Titans drew six walks on the day and Mauricio Morales struck out six on the mound.

PWV will hit the road and take on Ilwaco for a league doubleheader on Tuesday.
