Power of the Purse

Aug. 2 at Jester Auto Museum, 123 Hamilton Road; 4:30 p.m.

This will be the 17th annual Power of the Purse event hosted by the United Way of Lewis County. An annual award for a Woman of Distinction will be issued, and there will be purses on sale and auction to raise money for the nonprofit. The event is sold out as of Monday.

 

Mushroom Club Meeting

Aug. 2 at the WSU Extension Office, 17 SW Cascade St., Chehalis; 6 p.m.

The Southwest Washington Mycological Society will host its first meeting of the fall season. The meeting will include a presentation by Dr. Michael Beug on the “major genera of the boletes and polypores” with an emphasis on mushrooms that are common, though he will touch on less common mushroom varieties.

 

National Night Out Hot Dog Picnic

Aug. 2 at George Washington Park, Centralia; 6 to 8 p.m.

The Centralia Police Department will host a hot dog picnic on Aug. 2 as part of the National Night Out campaign. The picnic will include police vehicles from the Centralia Police Department and the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office, officers to speak with, live music by Jeremiah Vaught, ice cream, a raffle and kids activities.

 

Vacation Bible School

Aug. 3 through 5 at Dryad Community Baptist Church, 112 Olive St., Dryad; 6 to 8 p.m.

Acoustic Music Jam

Aug. 5 at Faith Baptist Church, 436 Coal Creek Road., Chehalis; 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.



The Washington Old Time Fiddlers Association will hold its monthly open acoustic jam on Friday, Aug. 5. Musicians of all ages and abilities are welcome and there will be coffee, tea and snacks available. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, call 360-791-5185.

 

Antique Fest

Aug. 5 through 7 in Downtown Centralia; Friday: 3 to 7 p.m., Saturday: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

There will be an outdoor vintage flea market that will include “vintage, shabby, mid century, industrial, antiques, collectibles, salvage, repurposed, live music, sidewalk sales throughout downtown, and more.”

20th Annual Pickersfest Music Festival

Aug. 5 through 7 at Winolequa Park near Winlock

The Washington Acoustic Music Association will host the Pickersfest Music Festival where headliners, including Pearl Django, The Portland Radio Ponies, String Theory, Sunny South and Choroloco, will play for attendees while teaching free festival workshops on a variety of instruments. Music jams and open mic opportunities will also be held. Food will be available with proceeds going to support the Winlock Youth Baseball organization. Camping is $10 per night and attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs for seating. For more information, contact Marv Sobolesky at 360-880-4273.

 

Packwood Music in the Park

Aug. 6 at Packwood Community Park, 12935 U.S. Highway 12, Packwood; 6 to 8 p.m.

The public is invited to watch Stationary Stones for family friendly live music. Hot dogs, chips and drinks will be on sale. For questions, call Jan Grose at 360-494-4007.

 

Mossyrock Blueberry Festival

Aug. 6 and 7 at the Mossyrock City Park, 202 Ajlune Road, Mossyrock; Opens 9 a.m. both days.

A pie eating contest will be held at 1 p.m. on Aug. 6 and Tony Braanco will perform live music from 6 to 10 p.m. A fireworks show will take place at 9 p.m. on Aug. 6. A “Show and Shine” car show and two Civil War reenactments will take place on both days.

 

Movies in the Park

Aug. 11 at Recreation Park, Chehalis; 7 p.m.

“Raya, The Last Dragon” will show at dusk. Popcorn, snacks and water will be available. Attendees are asked to bring blankets and chairs for a comfortable viewing.
