Southwest Washington Writers Conference
Sept. 9 and 10 at Centralia College
Jeff Wheeler, a Wall Street Journal bestselling author of almost three dozen fantasy novels that have sold over five million copies, will share the lessons he’s learned at the Southwest Washington Writers Conference. On Friday, Wheeler will teach “Worldbuilding 505: Stop Living in Your Head and Start Writing the First Chapter” and “The How of Creativity.” The classes will be followed by a panel of published authors and Seattle’s Chris Werner, editorial director at Brilliance Publishing, who will discuss “Bringing Your Stories to Life: The Ins and Outs of Publishing.” On Saturday, Wheeler will keynote the conference and teach two workshops, “The Five Questions (aka Wowing the Editorial Board)” and “Understanding Amazon.” On Saturday, attendees will be able to choose three workshops out of 18 offered. Topics will include “screenwriting, marketing, websites, novellas, memoirs, mystery, powerful prose, writing for anthologies, short stories and book covers.”
Lavender and Lace

Alliance Open Golf Tournament
Sept. 16 at Riverside Golf Course, 1451 NW Airport Road, Chehalis; 8:30 a.m.
Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. with the shotgun starting at 10 a.m. There will be four sponsorship options ranging in price from $500 to $5,000. There will be a four-man scramble that includes lunch, “great prizes” and raffle tickets.
Mexican Independence Celebration
Sept. 17 at Klickitat Prairie Park, 125 W. State St., Mossyrock; 8 a.m.
The celebration will begin with a pancake breakfast at the Mossyrock Assembly of God Church from 8 to 10 a.m. There will be bike races at 10 a.m., a parade at 12 p.m., tug of war games at about 1:30 and a greased pole climb at 2:30 p.m. DJ music will be played in the afternoon and evening by Rafaga Cosena. Fireworks will be shown at dusk.
Mussel and Lamprey Workshop
Sept. 17 at Stan Hedwall Park in Chehalis; 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Keepers of the Faith Gospel Music Concert

The Keepers of the Faith, a gospel music group from Puyallup that has been active for over 20 years, will be playing at a concert at Mt. View Baptist Church in Centralia. The group, which consists of five vocalists, has a unique style that brings together “deep south island flavor, a taste of oldie but goody and the soul of saved men and women in the genre of Southern Gospel Quartet Music.”
Lewis County Hiring Fair
