Community recycling event set for South Lewis County June 7

Posted

Residents of Lewis County will have a chance to drop off scrap metal and household appliances for free recycling from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 7, at the old Winlock Drop Box, 1105 Winlock-Vader Road, as part of Lewis County’s community recycling events program.

Volunteers from the City of Vader will be on hand to direct traffic and monitor the event, a news release from the Department of Public Works stated.

There will be separate containers for scrap metal items and non-refrigerated appliances, such as washers, dryers, stoves, hot water heaters and dishwashers. Refrigerated appliances such as refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners may be dropped off too, but will be kept separate from other material.

Any item that is made of at least 75 percent metal may be recycled at the event, according to organizers. Customers must remove the glass turntable from microwaves and drain fluids from motors, such as lawnmowers, before recycling.

No other materials will be accepted at the event.
