The second annual Construction Try-A-Trade event, hosted by the Capital STEM Alliance at Educational Service District 113 and the South Sound Washington Building and Construction Trades Council, was held on Oct. 9 at the Satsop Business Park in Elma.

Over 1,400 students from 33 middle and high schools across the five-county region participated in hands-on activities, spoke with employers and learned about local career opportunities in the trades, according to a news release from the Capital STEM Alliance.

“This can be a viable option for young people who are undecided about the costs associated with post-secondary education, or for those who want to earn a family-wage income,” Lorie Thompson, director of the Capital STEM Alliance, said.

The Capital STEM Alliance continues to help students with career-connected learning opportunities, including apprenticeships, internships, and college pathways, the news release stated.
