The Cowlitz County Jail inmate who died Nov. 1 passed away from natural causes related to his mental illness, Cowlitz County Coroner Dana Tucker reports.

A Saturday press release from the coroner's office says Sergey Vladimirovich Fedoruk, 50, died of "a probable seizure due to complications of schizophrenia."

Fedoruk — who was convicted for the 2011 murder of his brother-in-law and was awaiting sentencing for two newer cases — was found unconscious and not breathing in his county jail cell the morning on Nov. 1.

Health experts say schizophrenia patients are more prone to seizures than the general population.

Fedoruk recently pleaded guilty to threatening to kill a relative in 2021, as well as to two counts of second-degree child molestation that reportedly occurred around 2007 after the victims recently came forward. His sentencing for both cases was set for two days after his death.

Fedoruk was twice convicted of second-degree murder by a jury for beating his brother-in-law to death near the family’s Ostrander home in 2011, but the convictions were overturned.

In 2019, Fedoruk pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter in the case and was sentenced to 10 years in prison, which included his time served from the previous convictions. He was on probation when he was arrested in November 2021 for threatening the relative.
