Lincoln Niemi, a sophomore at Hoquiam High School, recently served as a page in the Washington state House of Representatives.

Rep. Joel McEntire, R-Cathlamet, sponsored the 15-year-old from Cosmopolis, according to a news release from House Republicans.

“Lincoln was a standout page — sharp, motivated and willing to help,” McEntire said. “It’s encouraging to see young people like him get involved in their government and take an interest in the legislative process.”

During his week at the Capitol, Lincoln assisted with a variety of responsibilities, including delivering documents, supporting House floor activity and attending page school, where he learned more about the lawmaking process.

Lincoln’s interests include sports, community service and economics. He is the son of Jeff Niemi, the release states.

“The Page Program gives students a front-row seat to how our state government works,” McEntire added. “Lincoln brought a genuine enthusiasm to every task. I’m confident he has a bright future ahead.”

The House Page Program runs throughout the legislative session, which takes place from Jan. 13 to April 27.

Students between the ages of 14 and 16 are eligible to apply and can earn a daily stipend of $65 as well as up to 20 hours of community service. For more information about the Page Program, visit https://shorturl.at/efWOK.
