Cowlitz River Siren Test to be Conducted Wednesday

Posted

Tacoma Power will conduct an annual emergency siren test on Wednesday, April 6.

Sirens at Ike Kinswa State Park, Mayfield Lake Park and the Cowlitz Salmon Hatchery will sound at 11 a.m. and include an announcement of the test, which will last about 90 seconds.

The test takes place on the first Wednesday of April every year and is a requirement of the utility’s federal license for operating dams.

Lewis County Emergency Management will send three messages about the test via the Lewis County Alert system the night before, an hour before and after the test.

The test sequence will be:

Recorded voice: “Attention — this is a test of the Cowlitz emergency warning system. This is only a test.”

There will be a fluctuating wail for 30 seconds.

Then a recorded voice will say: “This completes the test of the Cowlitz emergency warning system. This was only a test.”
