After a pair of five-set victories, the Napavine volleyball team was able to breathe a little easier on Monday, as the Tigers swept Castle Rock to improve to 3-0, winning 25-23, 25-23, 25-20.

Coach Monica Dailey was impressed with the Tiger defense, highlighting aggressive and fast play from several players, including Anna Thompson, who finished with seven digs.

“I felt like our defense was really good tonight,” Dailey said. “The girls were moving better and getting better touches on the ball.”

Dailey also commended setters Dakota Hamilton and Jessie McCoy, who “hustled their butts off tonight. Hamilton recorded a double-double with 15 assists and 10 kills, while McCoy added nine assists and five kills.

Grace Gall and Emily Kang were also solid on defense, as Gall tallied 17 digs and Kang had 15.

Dailey added that because of the strong play defensively, the Tigers were able to run some of their offense, and they notched 34 kills as a team.

“We were able to get the ball to our hitters, which was really exciting,” Dailey said.

For their other two games this week, the Tigers will be hitting the road. First, they’ll head to Kalama tomorrow before heading to Cathlamet on Thursday to face Wahkiakum. Both games are at 7 p.m.
