Dick’s Brewing Company’s Cornhole and Sausage Fest to benefit chamber’s Rob Fuller Scholarship Fund

Get your cornhole partner ready as players and spectators alike are invited to Dick’s Brewing Company’s Cornhole and Sausage Fest this Saturday, Sept. 9.

Aside from the tournament, attendees can enjoy beer and sausage selections. Multiple prize baskets will be raffled. The tournament will be held at Dick’s, located at 3516 Galvin Road in Centralia, with doors opening at noon and the tournament beginning at 1 p.m.

This event is for those 21 and older only.

The brewery partnered with the Centralia-Chehalis Chamber of Commerce for the event. Proceeds go toward the chamber’s Rob Fuller Scholarship Fund. According to Dick’s owner Julie Pendleton, a bracket style tournament will be set up with a total of 64 teams.

“People sign up with partners, so hopefully we’ll get 64 teams,” Pendleton said.

While people can register the day of the event, Pendleton said in prior tournaments, all 64 team spots have been filled by the day of the tournament.

“Typically, they’re filled by Saturday,” Pendleton added.

Those interested in registering must do so in person at Dick’s Brewing on Galvin Road or at Dick’s NW Sausage and Deli, located at 5945 Prather Road SW in Centralia. Registration costs $40 per team in advance or $50 the day of the tournament.

The brewery started hosting the cornhole tournament in 2017 and competitive cornhole league teams from throughout the region participate each year, Pendleton said.

“We get our league guys and other local leagues participate too, so sometimes we get those little bit better players and more competition,” Pendleton said. “But then we also just get a lot of novice backyard players just looking to have a couple beers, play some cornhole and eat a sausage.”

Multiple sausage styles will be available, all from Dick’s NW Sausage and Deli. Dick’s Brewing also has some new beers on tap for the tournament, including an American wheat ale and rye “light” ale, among others.

Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Cynthia Mudge said the sponsors this year provided the raffle items, which are various prize baskets.

In her opinion, the most popular one will be the Lucky Eagle Casino and Hotel raffle prize, which features a free overnight stay for two at the hotel, complete with a free dinner and breakfast.

“That’s going to be one of our $5 raffle ticket items,” Mudge said.

Another raffle item will be a “raking in the cash” prize with lottery tickets, sponsored by local radio station 1470 KELA-AM.

“Everything from fresh vegetables to beer and wine gets raffled off,” Mudge said. “There’s a little something for everybody.”

Mudge said the chamber tries to raise at least $10,000 for the Rob Fuller Scholarship Fund each year. The amount allows the chamber to distribute 10 $1,000 scholarships to students.

“We hope to raise between $3,000 and $4,000 (on Saturday), to put a dent in that goal, so by next May we’ll have the $10,000 raised,” Mudge said.
