The sultry sounds of jazz will soon fill The Juice Box Public House — located at 216 S. Tower Ave. in downtown Centralia — as the Dmitri Matheny Group brings its jazz noir sounds back on Saturday, Sept. 13, from 8 to 10 p.m., according to a news release.

“This will be our third appearance at The Juice Box,” Dmitri Matheny said in the release, “A venue that’s very special to me, personally, since it’s right here in my home town!”

A Centralia resident since 2014 and world-renowned jazz musician, Matheny will play the flugelhorn and be joined by Michael Brockman on saxophone, Susan Pascal on vibraphone, Garret Baxter on bass and Michael Raynor on drums.

Matheny got his start in music as a child, growing up listening to his father’s old jazz records, including Miles Davis’ Kind of Blue, and has now released and performed with other jazz musicians on over 100 albums himself, as previously reported by The Chronicle.

He is an honors graduate from the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, and got his start in the industry as jazz legend Art Farmer’s protégé in the 1990s. The San Francisco Chronicle called Matheny “one of the jazz world’s most talented horn players.”

This concert is just one of over 200 the Dmitri Matheny Group averages annually, and they have toured internationally in Europe and Asia too.

Their performance will feature the jazz noir sounds of femme fatales, gritty detectives and the urban underworld as they play jazz classics from cinematic film noir, television crime shows, pulp spy thrillers and more, the release added.

Tickets for the all-ages show are $23 and can be purchased online at https://tinyurl.com/47pd3ncs, by visiting The Juice Box or calling 360-807-4367.
