A driver crashed a car into a house in Vancouver on Thursday, killing a woman and a pet in the house, the Vancouver Fire Department said.

Vancouver Fire and Vancouver police responded to the scene in the 2600 block of Unander Avenue around 6:40 p.m. to find a car inside a house. A specialized rescue team arrived “to make sure the house did not collapse on emergency responders,” the fire department said.

The driver was taken to a nearby hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening, officials said.

The driver appears to have hit a curb at a “high rate of speed,” sending the car through a fence and into the house, police said in a statement.

Officials have not released the name of the driver, who faces “pending” charges of driving under the influence and vehicular homicide, police said.

The name of the woman who died also has not been released. Two other people who live in the house have been displaced from the residence, Vancouver Fire said.

Police said the investigation into the crash is ongoing.
