A driver died this morning when she drifted over a center line and struck another car in south Thurston County. Case Road Southwest near Grand Mound was closed Monday morning as the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office investigated the crash.

Sheriff’s Lt. Mike Brooks said deputies were dispatched at around 8:45 a.m. to the 16700 block of Case Road Southwest near the digital Lucky Eagle Casino sign. A woman was driving north on the road when she drifted over the center line and struck another car. She then veered off the road and her car rolled, causing her to be ejected from the vehicle, he said.

Brooks said people from the other vehicle were transported to an area hospital to be evaluated. He said he believes their injuries were minor, but they had to be extracted from the car by West Thurston Fire staff.

The road was closed Monday morning so the Sheriff’s Office could investigate the scene. There are no side roads in the area and the detour is significant, the Sheriff’s Office shared on social media. Drivers were asked to use Littlerock Road or Interstate 5 to get around the scene.
