An unidentified male driver was killed early Sunday morning in a crash off the freeway in south Thurston County, according to the Washington State Patrol.
About 4:15 a.m., the driver was headed south on Interstate 5 at a “high rate” of speed.
Troopers say the driver drove off the road south of the Maytown rest area, then the vehicle came to a stop in the trees, catching fire.
The road was blocked for nearly six hours after the crash, according to the state patrol.
