Edna Fund calls on locals to audition for Southwest Washington Fair talent show

The upcoming Southwest Washington Fair is set to host its annual talent show, but one thing is still missing: the talent.

Southwest Washington Fair Advisory Board member and former Lewis County Commissioner Edna Fund announced an open call for the fair’s talent show during the Lewis County Board of Commissioners meeting on Tuesday, July 22.

Fair officials will be holding auditions for those looking to show off their skills at 6 p.m. July 31.

“You need to bring your talent, you know your soft shoes or maybe you’re going to be singing,” Fund said. “You need to come display your talent to be in the competition, and if you make the cut, then you come back on Sunday, Aug. 17, for the talent contest.”

The amateurs-only talent competition is open to all ages 5 and older with three divisions — junior, teen and adult. Groups are also encouraged to enter; however, each performer may only participate in one act.

After the auditions, between 15 and 20 acts will be selected to move onto the official talent show that will take place during the fair on Aug. 17 at noon on the Community Stage at the Southwest Washington Fairgrounds.

In addition to a chance to show the crowd their skills, finalists earn two gate admission passes for the fair on Sunday. The first-place winner will receive a $100 cash prize while second place earns $50 and third place gets $25.

Performers will be judged out of 100 points by a three-judge panel. Acts are graded on poise, physical appearance, stage presence, overall impression and talent.
