Looking to test your cornhole skills?

Try your hand at the “Epic Cornhole Challenge,” scheduled for Jan. 28 at the Lucky Eagle Casino located at 12888 188th Ave. SW, Rochester at 4 p.m. The tournament is a fundraiser for Family Education and Support Services, a Thurston County-based nonprofit that aims to prevent child abuse by providing health-focused programs for children and parents.

“Call it a ‘cornament’ on a grand scale and let there be no ‘cornfusion,’” read an excerpt from a the organization’s news release.

The cornhole challenge will include two divisions for competitors.

First is the social division, for less-experienced or less-serious players. To compete in the social division, a two-man team is required and the entry fee is $100 per team.

A super-switch competitive division will also be available, using American Cornhole League standards. Players enter individually and will be randomly paired up with a new teammate in each game. The competitive division’s entry fee is $60 per person.

Participants can also purchase a food and drink ticket for $25 to avoid having to leave the tournament area to eat.

“The ‘challenge’ portion of the event comes when one person or team challenges another upon signing up. For example, firefighters might challenge police officers or a defense attorney (could) challenge a prosecutor to a game,” read an excerpt from the release.

Cornhole equipment and officiating will be provided by the Twin Cities Conrhole League.

Prizes will be awarded to the top three teams in the social division, and those in the competitive division will have the chance to win a cash prize. Other prizes will be given out too for things like best cornhole attire.

“And of course, someone can play in both the social and competitive divisions,” said Family Education and Support Services Director of Development Lynsi Polanco in the release.

In addition to the tournament, a silent auction will also be held. Music and entertainment will be provided by Bobby Williams, president and founder of Bridge Music Project.

For those interested, the Lucky Eagle Casino is offering discounted room rates on the tournament’s night for competitors until Jan. 15 using the promotional code “FamilyEDU.”

The cornhole tournament is for adults only, but the educational organization is planning a family-friendly cornhole tournament this summer at the Rutledge Corn Maze in Tumwater.
