Up 1-0 through 2.5 innings, the Rochester High School baseball team struggled to put away Mark Morris and the defensive miscues caught up in a 13-6 setback at Story Field on Wednesday night on the Lower Columbia College campus.
The Warriors finished with six errors in the contest and four of them came in the third and fourth innings. Mark Morris proceeded to score nine runs in the two frames and never looked back.
Rochester, which played its first game of the season after two other non-league games were postponed due to rain, attempted a rally with an RBI double from Tayden Martin, a passed ball plating Ethan Rodriguez in the fifth and a bases loaded walk to make it a 9-3 game.
The bases loaded rally ended quickly in the sixth and the Warriors couldn’t take advantage of 12 walks by the Monarchs. Martin and Singleton both toed the rubber and had seven strikeouts between them with an RBI at the plate.
Rochester begins Evergreen League play on Tuesday with a home doubleheader versus Tenino.
