One person died in a fall Sunday near the Middle Fork Snoqualmie trailhead, according to emergency officials.
The King County sheriff's office reported that an experienced group of climbers/friends were on a technical climb at Stegosaurus Butte when something caused the lead climber to fall about 150 feet.
Eastside Fire and Rescue announced a rescue effort underway around 5 p.m.
An emergency room doctor happened to be at the scene and confirmed the man had died, King County sheriff's spokesperson Brandyn Hull said. A King County search and rescue team, along with sheriff's deputies, later recovered the victim's remains.
The climber, a man believed to be in his 30s, was about a mile-and-a-half from the trailhead, Eastside Fire and Rescue spokesperson Catherine Imboden said Monday. The Middle Fork Snoqualmie trailhead is about 12 miles northeast of North Bend city limits.
The fatality is among several for hikers and climbers in Washington's backcountry in recent weeks.
Two people died in separate falls on Sauk Mountain in Skagit County last month. Also in September, a woman died amid a sudden snowstorm while hiking in the Enchantments.
