The Jack State Invitational returns on July 4, bringing together players, families and tennis enthusiasts for a day that celebrates community and the lasting impact of longtime W.F. West coach Jack State.

Hosted annually by the Lewis County Tennis Association and now in partnership with The Jack State Foundation, the event has become a vibrant summer tradition, drawing participants of all ages and skill levels for a morning of skills and drills, casual match play, connection and fun, according to a news release from event organizers.

The invitational will run from 9 a.m. to around noon, and welcomes all current and former players and spectators from Lewis County and beyond, including community members of all ages and anyone who played for State.

Attendees are invited to wear their Bearcat tennis gear.

The invitational will include gathering with friends, telling stories and being on the court, “some of Jack’s favorite things,” according to event organizers.

The Jack State Foundation was founded in January 2024 by Kristin State Hutchinson and Kyle State when their dad, legendary W.F. West High School tennis coach Jack State, died at the age of 80.

State was a coach and physical education teacher in the Lewis County community for roughly 50 years. During that time, he led W.F. West boys and girls tennis, high school basketball, Chehalis Middle School basketball and Centralia College men’s basketball teams to success.

“The Jack State Foundation is dedicated to empowering student athletes, ensuring access to sports is never hindered by finances, and granting young people the opportunity to play,” Kristin State Hutchinson said.
