Fire crews extinguished a brush fire that broke out after winds blew embers from a permitted burn onto the hillside on Viewcrest Drive south of Chehalis on Sunday.
The fire burned between an eighth of an acre and a quarter of an acre of unimproved property, according to Lewis County Fire District 6-Adna/Chehalis, which was dispatched to the fire at approximately 5:14 p.m. on Sunday, April 27.
Lewis County Fire District 5-Napavine, Lewis County Fire District 13-Boistfort and the Washington state Department of Natural Resources also responded.
The fire started after winds picked up between 2 and 5 p.m. on Sunday while a private landowner was conducting a permitted burn of tree waste, according to District 6.
The landowner contributed an excavator to aid in the firefighting effort.
Units remained on the scene for about three-and-a-half hours Sunday evening.
No injuries were reported and no structures were threatened.
