Franklin County firefighters are battling a blaze that started in a wheat field, according to dispatch reports.
The blaze began about 5:20 p.m. off of Stine Road east of Connell. When firefighters arrived they discovered about 250 acres in a wheat field burning.
By 8:15 p.m. the fire had grown to 440 acres, but appeared to be under control.
It’s unclear at this point whether that wheat was still being grown or whether it had been cut down.
It sent a large plume of smoke up in the area.
The cause of the fire is unknown.
