A balanced scoring night and pick-pocketing Scappoose 25 times allowed the Napavine High School girls basketball team to secure a 46-25 victory on Monday afternoon in the Martin Luther King Jr. Diamond Showcase Classic at Lower Columbia College.
Up by one after the opening eight minutes, the Tigers (11-4) outscored the Indians 26-7 in the middle two frames to cruise. In that stretch was an 18-2 outburst primarily started by their defense. Clara Fay led the way with four steals while Taylen Evander added three.
Evander paced the scoring with 11 points and Ava Ondong chipped in 10. Napavine was without leading scorer Hayden Kaut.
“I thought we were solid defensively,” Tigers head coach Shane Schutz said.
Napavine returns to C2BL action on Tuesday when it faces Mossyrock.
