The Centralia School Board has appointed Cameron McGee to a vacant position on the board.

McGee replaces Mike Stinkeoway, who was appointed to at-large position 3 in January 2024 and recently resigned.

“We are excited to work with Cameron to continue moving our district forward,” the Centralia School District said in a news release Tuesday morning following a special Monday evening school board meeting where the board appointed McGee.

“Cameron is a parent of six Centralia students, has extensive civic experience and is committed to our community, district and students. His experience and leadership will be an asset to our district,” the district stated.

McGee represented District 1 on the Centralia City Council from January 2018 up until Sept. 11, 2024, when he officially resigned from the position after moving out of his district. He still lives in Centralia.

He is the owner of Calypso Window Washing, LLC, and is the executive director of the Washington Association of Culture and Arts.

“I am excited about the possibility of bringing my expertise to the Centralia School Board, where I hope to contribute to nurturing an educational environment that ensures both student success and community satisfaction,” McGee said in his letter of interest to the school board.

McGee was one of five candidates who applied and were interviewed by the Centralia School Board on Saturday, Sept. 28, for the position. The other candidates were Neal Kirby, Chad Pelesky, Monique Farland and John Hess.

A recording of the interviews is available on the Centralia School District’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/centraliaschooldistrict

“It is a wonderful thing to have five people interested in serving our district and our students … so I am thankful for everyone who applied and their willingness to serve our district and our students,” Centralia Superintendent Lisa Grant said during the school board’s special meeting to select a new board member on Monday, Sept. 30.

Board members are expected to attend study sessions on the second Thursday of each month at 5 p.m. and board meetings on the fourth Thursday of each month at 5 p.m., as well as special board meetings and executive sessions. Directors also participate in committees related to education and attend many school events throughout the year.

McGee joins Debra L. Parnham, Martiza Bravo, Tim Browning and Sarah Holmes on the five-person board.
