The public is invited to a free seminar on the opioid epidemic at the Centralia College TransAlta Commons on Wednesday, Aug. 28.

The event will focus on both the opioid epidemic and the impact social media has on addiction, according to a news release.

“We are living in an ever-changing world of drugs and technology that are affecting everyone,” event organizers said in a news release. “Attend this seminar to learn and discuss this constant evolution. Walk away with information, resources and connections.”

The Centralia Police Department, the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office, the Chehalis Police Department, the Napavine Police Department, Lewis County Public Health and Social Services, Cascade Community Healthcare and the Chehalis and Centralia School Districts have partnered to host the event.

The seminar will feature a 90 minute presentation by Stephanie Siete, a nationally known educator in the field of drug addiction, prevention and awareness.

The presentation will cover the dangers of fentanyl, counterfeit pills, vapes and other addictive substances, according to a Centralia Police Department news release.

“Ms. Siete will share her knowledge of the intersection of drug abuse and social media and how today’s youth are using smart phone apps to connect with drug dealers. She will also cover the very addictive nature of social media itself,” the Centralia Police Department said in a news release.

One presentation will run from 10 to 11:30 a.m., and a second presentation will run from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
