The Friendly Neighbors Garden Club members recently celebrated the club’s 75th anniversary. The club was organized in 1938 and federated with the Washington State Garden Club in 1955. In 1938, neighbors living within walking distance of each other near Kennicott Road south of Chehalis came together to form a garden club. It consisted of 36 husbands, wives and children. They met in the evenings in members’ houses; yearly dues were 50 cents per member. Currently, meetings are held monthly, usually at members’ houses. Yearly dues are $12 per member. Shown above are club members, from left, Sandy Grady, Jean Davolt, MaryAnn Kostick (original charter member), Phyllis Dahlquist, Judy Belenski, Mary Schrader, Ginny Eddy, Shirley Roberts, Gayle Schilling, Michelle Moss (hidden), Carolynn Gregory, Coy Thompson, Laurie Fisk and Janet Graham.
