Staff at the Green Hill School juvenile detention facility in Chehalis reported contraband found at an employee’s workstation to local law enforcement Monday, Feb. 2, according to a news release from the Washington state Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF).
According to the release, the contraband was found during a search of the workstation and included a vape pen containing THC and possible methamphetamines. Staff then reported the incident to the Chehalis Police Department and provided officers with the collected evidence.
"This report to law enforcement reflects DCYF's ongoing commitment to partner with local law enforcement to report crimes at our facilities," said Harold Wright Jr., Green Hill superintendent. "Our staff take safety seriously, are vigilant of fellow colleagues, and take the necessary steps to collect evidence to support law enforcement to further their investigation. I am proud of the work of the Green Hill staff who helped gather evidence and act swiftly."
DCYF added that they couldn’t comment on active personnel investigations, but said that employees under investigation are immediately placed on administrative leave or “assigned to duties that do not involve interacting with young people.”
“Like other state agencies, we follow the just cause process as outlined in the collective bargaining agreement,” the release states.
