The upper greenhouse at Benny’s Florist, the longtime Chehalis flower shop, caught fire Sunday morning, according to owners Jake and Melinda Kreidler.

The Kreidlers posted about the incident on Facebook later that evening.

Despite “major damage” to the greenhouse, no one was injured in the incident, the owners said.

They described the loss as significant, but said business will continue as normal.

“It’s devastating to have lost the greenhouse after putting so much time and effort into restoring it and making it a usable space again,” the owners said. “At the same time, we’re incredibly grateful for all of the work that had already been done. Had we not put in that time and effort, we truly believe this fire could have been catastrophic.”

The Kreidlers thanked Lewis County Fire District 6 and the Chehalis Fire Department for their “quick response,” along with the caller who reported the fire.

“We’re incredibly grateful,” the owners said.

The Kreidlers took over the store in 2023, according to previous Chronicle reporting.

The cause of the fire is reportedly under investigation.
