Grose Drops 42 in Napavine’s Season Debut

Just a week removed from winning a 2B football state championship, the Napavine boys basketball team defeated Winlock Saturday afternoon at home in its season and league-opener, 80-32.

Junior guard James Grose scored a career-high 42 points to lead the Tigers on 16 of 35 shooting from the floor with seven made 3-pointers. Grose also hauled in a team-high nine rebounds in the win.

Elsewhere, Karsen Denault was an efficient 8 of 10 shooting from the field for 21 points, and Cael Stanley also scored in double figures with 10 points and dished out nine dimes. Jack Nelson tacked on eight rebounds in the winning effort, as well.

On the other side, the Cardinals were led in scoring by Payton Sickles 11 points.

The Tigers continue league play on Tuesday against Rainier on the road while the Cardinals hope to rebound against Toledo at home.
