Hip-hop dancer and choreographer Dezmond Garcia to teach community classes at Southwest Washington Dance Center on Sept. 29

The Southwest Washington Dance Center will host a guest instructor, hip-hop dancer and choreographer Dezmond Garcia, for three levels of community classes on Sunday, Sept. 29.

A class for beginner and intermediate dancers ages 8-12 will run 3 to 4 p.m.; a class for beginner and intermediate dancers ages 13 and up will run 4 to 5 p.m.; and a class for intermediate and advanced dancers ages 10 and up will run 5 to 6 p.m.

The class costs $20, with the fee due at the door. Dancers must bring their own athletic shoes. Shoes must be clean with no rocks in the sole, according to a news release.

Garcia started his journey as captain of his high school dance team where they received state and national championships. While a part of his high school dance team, he attended Allegro's Summer Dance Team Intensive, where he earned a scholarship for free Allegro tuition.

He received his training under Daniel Cruz, Valicia Valliani and Joselitto Castillo, along with many other influential dancers and choreographers, according to a news release.



He has roots in many styles of dance such as ballet, modern, jazz, contemporary and bollywood.

Garcua was accepted into Cornish College of the Arts and has performed in many venues here in the Northwest, including World of Dance, Beamer Breakdown and Cruz Control.

“He continues to share his love and passion for dance both in the classroom and online,” the Southwest Washington Dance Center said in the news release. “Dez has a contagious energy and passion for dance that his students are motivated by.”

Classes will take place at the Southwest Washington Dance Center, located at 437 N. Market Blvd. in Chehalis.
